Developing a Soothing Evening Self-Care Routine

Do you work all day from the time you wake up until just before you go to bed? Are you always putting others needs before your own? Do you struggle with fatigue and grab whatever food you can find after a long day? Do you start and end the day on social media?

If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, it’s high time that you make more time for self-care.

This is not how life is meant to be lived and these types of habits and routines will start to affect your mental and physical health.

Self-Care… Selfish or Selfless?

Self-care is essential!

In order to start a journey of self-care and maximize relaxation, you need to pay more attention to the things you’re doing right before bed. Creating a soothing evening routine will go a long way in ensuring that you set clear boundaries between working and resting.

By creating an evening routine, you soon realize that it’s possible to feel refreshed and positive when you wake up in the morning as opposed to feeling overwhelmed and sluggish.

Your overall health depends on how well you take care of yourself now.

A lack of self-care can interfere with your relationships with others. So, contrary to what others may think, self-care isn't inconsiderate or selfish. As a matter of fact, it makes you more energetic, positive, and productive.

Self-care is closely related to self-esteem in the sense that when it’s practiced, it generates positive feelings that enhance your self- confidence.

Self-care is not only important for you, but for your loved ones too. Unhealthy relationships develop and conflicts become more common when you fail to first make time for yourself.

Tips for Creating the Perfect Evening Self-Care Routine

Think about tomorrow

Planning what you plan to achieve, eat, and wear tomorrow will ensure you can go to bed feeling less stressed. Being more prepared means you won’t be as rushed in the morning and can actually make time for additional self-care such as journaling or meditating.

Create a new skincare routine

Something as simple as having clear, soft skin can make a world of difference to your self-esteem. If you don’t usually take the time to nourish your skin in the evenings, adopt a new routine that will allow you to show your skin some love. Even if it’s just using a more nourishing moisturizer - small steps make a big difference. You could even aim to apply a face mask once a week as a form of self-love and care.

Soak in a bath

When last did you spend time soaking in a bath without worrying about the next 30 minutes? You deserve to take 30 minutes out of your day once or twice a week to soak in botanicals or essential oils, which will rejuvenate your body, mind, and soul.

Feed your mind

We spend so much time on social media that we forget our minds need meaningful nourishment too. Instead of ending the day on Instagram or Facebook, pick up a motivating or thought-provoking book or learn to meditate as a way to stimulate your mind in a different way. Meditation doesn’t have to mean sitting cross-legged on the floor surrounded by crystals. It could be popping your earphones in and listening to a guided meditation or sounds of the ocean to clear the mind before getting a good restful night’s sleep.

There are countless things that you can add to your evening self-care routine but it’s always best to start small to not feel overwhelmed. Trying to add in too much too soon will only leave you feeling more stressed. Make one small change at a time and most importantly, do what works for you.
